Project Overview: Produced a cinematic short-form animation of a yacht navigating through a violent storm at sea. The piece demonstrates a strategic hybrid workflow where traditional 3D animation provides precise control over the hero subject and camera, while AI generation handles complex environmental effects — waves, weather, atmospheric details — that would otherwise require weeks of fluid simulation and VFX work.


Hybrid Pipeline Approach:


CGI Foundation (Cinema 4D):

  • Built and animated the yacht model with precise mechanical behavior on the water.

  • Choreographed cinematic camera movements to create tension and narrative flow.

  • Rendered the full animation as a grey-shaded blocking pass — establishing exact geometry, motion, and perspective without investing time in detailed materials.


AI Enhancement (Seedance 2.0):

  • Used the grey-shaded 3D render as an animation reference and control guide for AI generation.

  • Generated photorealistic ocean dynamics: stormy waves, foam, and water interaction with the hull.

  • Created atmospheric elements: lightning storms, rain, clouds, and sea spray.

  • Transformed the grey blocking into a fully-realized cinematic scene with realistic lighting, weather, and environmental chaos.


Why This Split Works: 3D handles what AI struggles with: consistent object identity, precise camera choreography, and reliable motion continuity. AI handles what 3D makes expensive: fluid dynamics, volumetric weather, and complex natural phenomena. Production Process:

  • Blocking (Cinema 4D): Modeled the yacht, animated realistic hull motion in waves, and choreographed dramatic camera work.

  • Grey-shaded render: Exported the full sequence in matte grey — the perfect "skeleton" for AI interpretation.

  • AI transformation (Seedance 2.0): Fed the blocking into Seedance 2.0 with detailed prompts specifying storm conditions, wave behavior, lightning, and atmospheric mood.
